License plate restoration is the practice of repairing and cleaning a vintage license plate that has otherwise been damaged so that it is roadworthy and looks attractive. This includes fixing cracks and holes in the plate, as well as removing rust and stains.
The basic restoration procedure generally involves removing old paint from the plate with a sander. The bare metal plate is then reshaped to remove dents and buckling. Rust is also removed, and rust corrosion damage is repaired. At this point, metal patches can also be added to cover holes and cracks. Finally, the plate is repainted using the original colors and design.
