No current car dealer sells new models of Cougar automobiles since the model has not been in production for many years. Mercury built and sold the Cougar from 1967 to 1997 and from 1999 to 2002, but as of 2016, Cougars are only available as used cars from dealerships.
The Mercury brand ceased operations in June 2010. Mercury was a branch of Ford Motor Company and offered a middle class of car between Ford and its high-class brand, Lincoln. Mercury marketed the Cougar as a personal luxury car for most of its model run. The final version, from 1999 to 2002, was a sport compact vehicle.
