To install new leaf springs, position the vehicle on jack stands, take out the back tires, remove the U-bolts and spring shackle connecting the leaf spring to the axle and leaf spring hanger, respectively, and pull the leaf spring away from the axle and the frame. Then, position the new leaf spring, and affix it to the frame and the axle. Finally, replace the back tires, and lower the vehicle.
Begin installing new leaf springs by raising the vehicle's rear end with a jack. Position the vehicle's axle and frame securely on the jack stands, and take out the tires at the back using a tire iron.
To remove the U-bolts, use a 1/2-inch socket and ratchet. Then, identify the leaf spring hanger on the rear side of the frame, close to the bumper on the rear side. Identify the leaf spring shackle hanging from it, and unbolt it from the from the hanger and the leaf spring using a 1/2-inch socket and ratchet and a wrench with an open end.
Obtain someone's assistance to detach the leaf spring from the axle and the frame. To position the new leaf spring, insert the bolt at the front in the frame, and then slide in the shackle at the back. If required, take someone's assistance to do this.
To bolt the front and back bolts of the leaf spring, use a 3/8-inch socket and ratchet and a wrench with an open end. Use a 1/2-inch socket and ratchet to bolt the U-bolt connecting the leaf spring to the axle. After replacing the back tires, use the jack to remove the vehicle from the jack stands.
