Hall Automotive, located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was founded in 1972 by Kenneth A. Hall with a mission to build long-lasting relationships with customers and build a consolidated network of retail automotive businesses to meet the needs of customers in the Mid-Atlantic region. In 2006, MileOne, a Baltimore-based business, purchased the Hall Automotive Group.
In 40 years, Hall Automotive grew to include dozens of dealerships representing 24 brands in four states: Maryland, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Virginia. In 2004, the Hall dealerships generated $300 million from the sale of new cars and trucks and an additional $284 million in used cars, parts, fleet vehicles and service. Hall Automotive was ranked as one of the top 50 largest automotive retail businesses in the United States.
Hampton Roads is an attractive market for car sales in large part because of the military presence in the region. When many dealerships were dealing with shrinking profit margin in the early 2000s, Hall remained profitable and had a reputation for being well-managed, making it an attractive prospect for the MileOne group.
The MileOne brand was launched in 2006. After the sale to MileOne, the Hall dealerships kept their names. In addition to dozens of dealerships, MileOne also operates collision centers throughout the region. The group also provides leasing services.
MileOne dealerships include Hall, Heritage, Herb Gordon, Mercedes-Benz of Annapolis and MotorWorld. William R. Baker, divisional manager of the Hall Automotive Group, is a member of the operations committee for MileOne.
