Some of Chevrolet's high-performance engines are the LS3, LSA, LS7, LS9 and LSX454R. The LS3 powers Chevrolet's Camaro SS muscle car, and powered the company's C6 generation of Corvette sports car. It makes 430 horsepower and 424 foot-pounds of torque. It is a cast-aluminum V8 with 6.2 liters of displacement.
The LSX454R makes 770 horsepower and 612 foot-pounds of torque. It is also a V8, but is made from cast-iron and displaces 7.4 liters. Chevrolet designed the engine for drag racing, and it uses a carburetor rather than fuel injectors. Chevrolet sells all of these engines, and around 40 others, as crate engines, or stand-alone engines, that customers can purchase separately from a car.
