Many types of single-person helicopters are available. Consumers can even purchase kits that contain everything necessary to build a fully functional single- or two-person aircraft.
Engineers continue to try and make helicopters as small and light as possible. Some models are little more than a framework that the pilot must cling to while flying the craft. One Japanese toymaker is even working on a life-size remote-controlled helicopter. Japanese engineers have also developed a tiny electric helicopter that flies almost silently.
As of 2015, these small helicopters are becoming more and more affordable. As research continues, they may become more accessible to the general public.
