As of July 2015, Consumer Reports ranks both the RAM 1500 and the Chevrolet Silverado at the top of its list, according to a local NBC report. Although the Ford F-150 scored well in testing, it lost points in terms of the ride and handling of the truck.
In 2014, Consumer Reports named the RAM 1500 EcoDiesel the top full-sized pickup truck on the market. The RAM 1500 V8 came in second, followed by the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in third place in the organization's 2014 recommendations. In addition, the report rated the RAM 1500 the most comfortable full-sized truck on the market in 2014.
Although Consumer Reports recommends the RAM 1500, it also acknowledges that the Ford F-150 is a top seller in the market, despite its lower ratings. For example, the Ford F-150 earned 69 points, while the RAM 1500 V8 earned 81 in the 2014 road tests.
In 2015, Ford introduced an aluminum body model that is 700 pounds lighter than the Ford F-150 V8. Although Consumer Reports said that the aluminum body Ford F-150 accelerated well, it noted that the truck's price was steep for the market.
The Honda Ridgeline also received good reviews from Consumer Reports in 2014, due to its outside storage compartment, dual-action tailgate and payload numbers. However, its fuel economy was sub-par.
