The Fiesta, Focus and Mustang are the only Ford vehicles available with manual transmissions, as of 2015. Six-speed transmissions are standard for the Fiesta ST, Focus ST, and Mustang, while other Fiesta and Focus models come standard with five-speed transmissions.
Although Ford Fiesta, Focus and Mustang have optional automatic transmissions, no other Ford vehicle has the option of a manual transmission. Road and Track magazine reports that this is becoming the norm with fewer manufacturers producing vehicles with stick shifts, opting instead for computer-controlled automatic transmissions. According to TFLCar.com, Ford is currently the only manufacturer without a manual transmission option for its line of trucks. Even the Super Duty and Chassis Cab diesel-powered trucks, which traditionally required manual transmissions due to inherent low-torque, come standard with the TorqShift Heavy-Duty Six-Speed SelectShift automatic transmission.
TFLCar.com provides a list of 2015 car and SUV models available with manual transmissions, primarily subcompacts and sports cars. Dominated by six-speed transmissions, there are a few exceptions on the list. Subcompacts, most of the Volkswagens and all of the Mitsubishi models have five-speed manual transmissions. Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass SUVs also come with five-speed transmissions. The seven-speed manual transmission standouts are the Chevy Corvette and Porsche 911.
