Ford's EcoBoost technology combines fuel injection with turbocharging to create greater fuel economy. That economy comes without any loss of power, since the extra air provided to the engine by the turbocharging makes the engine more powerful.
Ford EcoBoost engines use direct fuel injection rather than regular fuel injection. This process skips one step and thereby makes the engine more fuel efficient. In essence, EcoBoost gives drivers the extra power of a turbocharged engine without the typical sacrifice in fuel economy that usually accompanies turbocharging. Ford offers an EcoBoost option on almost all its models, as of 2015, but often the option is only available on the most high-end, most expensive models.
