Mini fifth wheel trailers are designed to be compact and lightweight, so that smaller trucks can tow them. Two of the smallest fifth wheel trailers on the market are the Scamp 19-foot trailer and the Escape 5.0TA, both of which can be towed by the majority of six-cylinder trucks.
Scamp targets the lightweight segment of the travel trailer market. The 2014 Scamp catalog offers 13-foot and 16-foot trailers alongside the 19-foot fifth wheel. The 19-foot model weighs approximately 2,400 pounds and sleeps up to six people. Standard features include a queen-size loft bed, dining table, gas stove and extra storage, while optional features include a shower, larger refrigerator and awning. Scamp also sells a deluxe model that features additional floor plans and a hardwood interior.
Escape Trailer Industries is based in Chilliwack, British Columbia, but sells products throughout North America. Fabricated by hand with a molded fiberglass shell, the 5.0TA weighs approximately 3,700 pounds and can be towed by most vehicles rated at 5,500 pounds or more. The fifth wheel sleeps up to six people and features a 6.7-cubic-foot refrigerator, complete bathroom and 12-foot awning. A complete list of features is available on the company website, which is located at EscapeTrailer.com.
