The Honda GL1800 trike is the three-wheeled version of the Honda Goldwing 1800 motorcycle powered by a liquid-cooled, 1.8-liter engine. While base specifications are similar to unmodified Goldwings, individual trikes may vary due to differences in the conversion kits used to produce them from the original motorcycle.
The fifth generation of the Honda Goldwing 1800 currently in production as of 2015 is powered by a horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine that produces 118 horsepower and is mated to a five-speed transmission. An electric reverse gear is also included. Dual floating disc front brakes and single disc rear brakes are standard, and anti-lock braking systems are available as options. The Goldwing also includes MP3 and USB connectivity and a six-speaker sound system as standard on recent models, as well as an optional airbag system for safety.
Several manufacturers produce conversion kits, including Motor Trike and Lehman, leading to differences in the specifications and performances of individual GL1800 trikes. Some manufacturers also produce different levels of conversion kits, such as the Razor, Adventure and Fastback kits produced by Motor Trike. The most notable difference between these conversions is the solid rear axle used in the Fastback as opposed to the independent rear suspension used for the Razor and Adventure conversions.
