The 2016 Ford F-650 is a medium-duty commercial truck powered by a choice of a V-10 gasoline engine or a turbocharged V-8 diesel. Rear-wheel drive mated to a 6-speed Ford TorqueShift automatic transmission is standard equipment with either the gas or diesel engine. Chassis options include tractor-style, straight frame and Pro Loader flatbeds with either regular, crew or extended SuperCab cab options.
The 6.8-liter Triton V-10 engine offered as an option on the Ford F-650 is one of the truck's most distinguishing features, as no other similar Class 6 or Class 7 commercial truck offers a gasoline engine option. The Triton engine produces 320 peak horsepower and 460 foot-pounds of torque. Ford's 6.7-liter PowerStroke diesel V-8 engine is the only diesel power plant manufactured in-house among major commercial truck manufacturers, and produces up to 330 horsepower and 725 foot-pounds of torque depending on configuration. The gasoline engine option of the F-650 offers a lower initial investment at purchase, while the diesel engine option is more powerful and has been engineered to last for up to 500,000 miles before failure.
The 2016 F-650 offers a number of styling updates over older F-650 models, including a restyled grill available in black or chrome and high-intensity halogen headlamps. Longer suspension springs and an available front stabilizer bar also help to improve ride quality over previous models. Ford's Sync hands-free infotainment system is also available as an option.
