If you live in a state that provides one, you can take an online driver's safety course through entities such as the American Safety Council's Texas and New York branches, the National Safety Council and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles of Indiana. The Indiana BMV website provides links to several online and video programs, including Indiana Online Driver Improvement and A Better Drive.
The Texas Driving School website of the American Safety Council offers an online course in defensive driving. You can register for the class through the website and work at your own pace within a three-month completion time frame. The New York branch offers a similar defensive driving course online.
The National Safety Council provides a Defensive Driving Online Course that, upon successful completion, leads to a Certificate of Completion. Additional courses include Defensive Driving Course Online Abridged, Defensive Driving Course: Distracted Driving Online, Defensive Driving Course: Professional Truck Driver Online, Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator Online for Fire Personnel, and Motorcycle Safety Online.
The programs from the Indiana BMV are available for individuals convicted for two or more traffic offenses within a 12-month period. Other Indiana drivers can take these courses, and the Indiana BMV sometimes applies a four-point credit to individual driving records for those who complete these courses.
