Expandable travel trailers are typically smaller, lighter and less expensive. They can be towed by a wider variety of vehicles. The bedrooms on the expandable trailers fold out from the front and back with canvas walls and only the living area, bathroom and kitchen are located in the hard shell section. Larger models have an additional bedroom and an expanded dinette that folds down on the trailer's back side. Sizes available range from 18 feet 6 inches to 25 feet 11 inches long, as of 2015. The models weigh between 3,000 and 5,000 pounds when empty.

The full-size travel trailer models are completely hard-shell encased with additional options for a variety of slide-out rooms that are also fully encased. These units come with a wide variety of floor plans, features and options. Aerolite offers 13 models in sizes ranging from 25 feet 8 inches to 36 feet 11 inches. All of the models have slide-outs on the back to enlarge the living areas. Some units have slide-outs on the front also to add additional sleeping, living and kitchen areas. Gross weight for this type of travel trailer runs from around 5,000 pounds to over 7,500 pounds not loaded.
