Small and medium cars are categorized into sedans, hatchbacks, coupes and convertibles. Larger cars are divided into wagons, sports utility vehicles and minivans. Other categories of cars include luxury cars, sports cars, crossovers and hybrids.
Convertibles come with detachable roofs that change them from enclosed cars to an open air cars. Modern convertibles have fully automatic hydraulic or electrical actuators. Coupés are two-door cars with a compact rear area and a long hood. Coupés with high performing engines are used in car sports. Hatchbacks have a back door entry as a fifth door which is shared by the passenger and cargo.
Sedans are among the most popular car categories. They are four door cars with fixed roof tops, usually with two rows to seat passengers in the center compartment. SUVs are large cars with high ground clearance, extreme power, high load carrying ability and ample seating space. They are especially designed for off-road drives and are commonly fitted with four doors.
Wagons are cars with an extra lift gate or tailgate installed at the rear side of the vehicle. Wagon roofs extend to the rear of the car and feature huge windows on the cargo side. Crossovers are a combination of hatchbacks or station wagons with SUVs and are known for their fuel efficiency and high point seating.
