Toyota Corolla, Nissan LEAF and Honda Civic are the compact cars with top ratings for dependability according to J.D. Power and Associates. Chevrolet Malibu, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry are reliable midsize cars.
As of 2015, CBS News rates the Honda Fit, Buick LaCrosse and Kia Sportage as some of the most reliable cars on the market. The Fit gives 33 miles per gallon in the city and 41 miles per gallon on the highway. The LaCrosse features new technology, such as a lane departure warning and a blind spot monitor. The Sportage is rated well for acceleration and handling.
The Scion xB wagon, Lexus ES 350, Scion tC Coupe and Mercedes Benz E-Class Coupe are very reliable, according to Bankrate.com.
Consumer Reports lists many of the same cars as above as being dependable, in addition to the Toyota Prius C, Subaru Forester, Volkswagen Passat and Mazda 6. The hybrid Prius C offered the best gas mileage of any car Consumer Reports tested. The Passat's engine is powerful and efficient. The Mazda 6 gets good gas mileage.
Other cars that J.D. Power and Associates rated well include the Ford Taurus, Infiniti M, Lincoln MKZ, Toyota Yaris and Toyota Avalon. For dependable sporty cars, Volkswagen Eos, MINI Cooper, Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro received high ratings.
