Jaguar Land Rover manufactures the Land Rover. Between 1989 to 2008, Ford owned Jaguar, after which Tata Motors acquired the company and Land Rover brand. BMW owned the Land Rover brand between 1994 and 2000, when Ford acquired it and joined it to the Jaguar brand.
The company Rover initially developed the Land Rover brand in the mid 20th century. Land Rover became an independent company in 1978, introducing the new Range Rover and Land Rover Discovery. Land Rovers are an SUV marketed as a luxury vehicle suitable for rough terrain, although the company also sells smaller and more affordable models of the car.
