The Chrysler Group makes Jeep vehicles. The very first Jeep was produced by a company named Wyllis-Overland during World War II.
The Jeep was produced to meet the needs of the Army in the United States. After the production of the first Jeep, the Army commissioned Ford to produce the vehicles as well. The first Jeep for civilian use did not come on the market until 1941 by Wyliss. In 1953, Wyliss merged with Kaiser, but in the 1970s, the company sold to American Motors. In the 1980s, Chrysler bought out American Motors and as of 2014, they continue to own the Jeep brand.
