Aluminum mirror finishes provide the metal surface with a sleeker shine, resulting in a more refined appearance, similar to chrome. This mirrored surface results in a more decorative appearance as well as easier cleaning, because of how starkly dirt and debris may appear on the surface.
To polish the aluminum to a mirror surface, begin by cleaning the surface with some dish detergent to get rid of obvious signs of dirt and grime. Afterward, use increasingly finer types of sandpaper until achieving a mirror surface, beginning with a wet 320-grit sandpaper and continuing up to a 2,000-grit sandpaper. Follow through with a buffing compound.
