To check the status of your driver’s license, you will need to call your state’s local DMV, visit the local DMV in person, or use their online website. You will need your driver’s license number, social security number and birth date. It is not free.
When getting sensitive information such as the state of your driver’s license or your motor vehicle report, it is always best to get the information directly from your state’s local Department of Motor Vehicle Services. Be careful using third-party websites claiming to be able to get your information for you. Not only will you end up paying their hidden or large fees, but you are also giving them access to sensitive personal information that should not be in their possession.
If a website is promoting free driver’s license checks, leave that site immediately. Those websites are typically scams or use “bait and switch” tactics to get money from you in the end. Unfortunately, "free" driving record reports do not exist. Each state charges a different convenience fee for pulling up your driver’s license status or motor vehicle report. Most states do offer motor vehicle records on their websites as well as many other services that can keep you out of the long lines at the DMV office.
