Vehicle identification numbers are typically found in the corner of the dashboard near the steering wheel. Alternatively, they can be found near the top of the doorjamb of the driver’s door or on the doorpost of the driver’s door near the area where the door latches shut.
Some VINs are found on the front of the car’s engine, near the container holding windshield-washer fluid, under the spare tire and just above the rear tire wheel well. VINs are a combination of 17 numbers and letters and are unique to each vehicle. Much like a fingerprint, VINs are used to identify and track a car.
