Honda manufactures Acura cars. Honda developed Acura as its luxury subdivision. The Legend and the Integra were the first Acura models released in the United States in 1986, and their success prompted other Asian brands to design competing counterparts, such as Toyota's Lexus and Nissan's Infiniti.
Although Honda and Acura originated in Japan, there are a total of 11 Honda manufacturing plants in six American states as of 2015. In 2014, North American Honda plants manufactured 97 percent of the Honda and Acura vehicles sold in the United States. The oldest Honda manufacturing plant in America opened in 1982 in Marysville, Ohio.
