Options for having an RV propane tank refilled include propane distributors such Amerigas, moving rental companies such as U-Haul, and fuel centers such as Flying J and Pilot. Most of these locations can fill the tank on the RV or on the ground.
In most cases, refilling a propane cylinder is a less expensive option than using an exchange program. Refilling the cylinder allows the owner to use any fuel remaining in the tank. In the United States, refillable propane cylinders must undergo a recertification process 12 years after their manufacture date. If a RV cylinder needs recertification, the distributor cannot refill it. The recertified tank is good for an additional five years.
