Car owners can purchase an automotive computer diagnostic scanner such as DiagProg 4 for home use. Although the company behind the DiagProg4 is located in Poland, it ships to the United States. In fact, the company offers a tool package specifically designed for the USA.
Some of the capabilities of the device include reading diagnostic fault codes in the OBD system, reading service history, and programming remote keys. The device connects to a vehicle directly through the OBDII connection and supports all communication protocols.
Although the DiagProg 4 can also reset the mileage of the vehicle, the act is strictly illegal. Car owners must use it only for diagnostic purposes. Civil penalties up to $100,000 are applicable in cases of altered odometers.
