The company now known as Chris-Craft was established by Christopher Columbus Smith in Algonac, Michigan, in 1874. Smith originally made punts and skiffs. In 1881, he and his brother Hank joined forces to manufacture boats, which were popular with hunters and outdoor enthusiasts. The brothers' success grew, and the company went on to manufacture small motorboats, speedboats and powerboats. Chris-Craft celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2014 with the release of the Capri 21 vertical bow series, a tribute to the company's heritage. Chris-Craft designs and manufactures its boats in Sarasota, Florida.
