Find out if there are any recalls on a Ford Focus by using the search engine on the Safercar.gov website sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the car has a safety defect but is not listed as recalled, file a safety complaint on the same website.
To conduct a recall search on a Ford Focus or any other make of car, go to Safercar.gov, and click on Search For Recalls on the right side of the main page. Select the year, make and model of the car, then click Go. The search engine gives the recalls, investigations, complaints and service bulletins for the type of car you enter. Additionally, use the Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, search tool to access the past 15 calendar years of databases to find out whether a particular vehicle has been repaired as a result of a safety recall.
To report a defect on a car that is not listed as recalled, go to the Safercar.gov main page, and click on File a Complaint on the top right side of the page. Type in the year, make, model and Vehicle Identification Number of the car. Report incidents of vehicle danger or failure by providing the incident date, the type of incident, any injuries or fatalities, the speed and mileage when the incident occurred, and a brief description of the incident. Provide your personal information for the NHTSA and vehicle manufacturer.
