If you have tow services offered by your car manufacturer, auto insurance, AAA or your credit card company, these can help save money on towing a vehicle. Additionally, some car service companies like Pep Boys provide low-cost towing.
As of 2016, if you have a AAA membership, you can get reduced or no-cost towing. Basic AAA membership is free of charge for a tow up to three miles, whereas AAA Premier offers up to 200 miles of free towing.
If your car insurance has emergency roadside assistance, you may get towing free of charge. Some insurance companies like State Farm help negotiate lower prices with a towing company even if roadside assistance is not covered. If your vehicle is new, your automaker may also have roadside assistance coverage. Some credit cards like American Express and Visa Signature offer roadside assistance at flat or reduced negotiated costs. For example, Visa charges $59.95 per service call.
Pep Boys can order towing a vehicle to a Pep Boys location up to 10 miles away for $24.99 for Rewards Members and $49.99 for nonmembers.
If none of these are options, you can use the Yellow Pages to find local towing companies.
