The U.S. Army often sends decommissioned equipment to private contractors, such as ExArmyVehicles.com or Army Surplus stores, who then sells to civilian consumers. This decommissioned equipment does include vehicles, on occasion.
These private contractors sell a variety of vehicles, including Jeeps, Hummers, trucks and even tanks, though rarely. The vehicles are stripped of their weapon systems, however, and in the case of the tanks, their main cannons are filled with cement or otherwise rendered inoperable. Otherwise, the vehicles represent a danger to public security if maintained as weapons platforms by civilians. Most of these vehicles do not face legal restrictions for use on every day roads and highways.
