All 50 U.S. states allow driver's license holders to renew online using the appropriate state DMV website. However, some states have regulations in place that require licenses to be renewed in person under certain circumstances.
Visit the DMV website of the state that issued the drivers license that needs to be renewed in order to find out what is required. Most states do not allow licenses to be renewed online if the license holder is no longer living at the address listed on the license. In these cases, license holders must renew in person. Additionally, some states, such as New York and Washington, require the submission of an eyesight test before a license can be renewed, and this must be submitted to the DMV by the eye test provider.
