As of March 2015, California's DMV website does not list driver license obtainment as an online option. However, current driver license holders can renew their licenses, update their addresses and request their personal driving records online.
California requires residents to pass a written exam, vision exam and driving test prior to receiving a noncommercial Class C driver license. There is an application fee for the license, and test takers can call the DMV or request an appointment online to minimize wait time.
Special accommodations, such as person-to-person examination or an exam executed in American Sign Language, are available for the written exam. The written exam is also available in several foreign languages, including Hindi, German and Russian.
