The camshaft position sensor on a 2005 Toyota Camry is located on the outside of each cylinder head. The position can be seen by finding the wiring harness that connects to the outside of the engine block near each cylinder. The sensor is behind and connected to the harness.
The camshaft is a component of modern internal combustion engines. The camshaft is a rod studded with 'cams' or oblong components that make contact with other engine parts. The cams rotate with the shaft. Because of their oblong shape, the cams are able to actuate the combustion valves, which allow fuel, air, and exhaust to enter and exit the combustion chambers of the engine. The camshaft position sensor allows the engine to time the firing of spark plugs to the position of the valves.
