A Boeing 797 is a hoax aircraft. It was reported to be a massive passenger jet that could seat at least 1000 people, fly for 10,000 miles on a single fueling and cruise at over 650 miles per hour.
The original image that started circulating of the Boeing 797 looked convincing because it was professionally developed by Embassy Visual Effects for Popular Science using computer graphics software. It was created for a 2003 issue that examined the future of aircraft.
A vice president of Boeing, Randy Baseler, was running a company blog in 2006 and addressed the issue. He stated explicitly that Boeing was not planning on building a 1000 passenger commercial airplane dubbed the 797 and that it was not in their commercial market forecast, which goes out twenty years.
