Consumer Report's top pick for the best overall car of 2015 is the Tesla Model S, priced during the test at $89,650. The Tesla scored a 99 out of 100 ,with high marks for its technological prowess. The vehicle's miles per gallon equivalent is 84 MPGe.
The best compact car of the year is the Subaru Impreza. Pricing in around $21,000, the vehicle scored a 79 out of 100, with a very good reliability rating. Consumer Reports noted the interior design and all-wheel drive and calls the Impreza a "great starter car."
The Subaru Legacy is the best midsized sedan of 2015, according to Consumer Reports, which calls the roughly $25,000 car "quiet, comfortable and roomy." It scored 89 of 100 points.
The Chevrolet Impala took the prize for the large car category. The car priced in at just under $40,000 and scored a 91. Consumer Reports calls the Impala comfortable and luxurious, noting its intuitive and easily understood controls.
Consumer Reports rated six other vehicles in other categories: the Audi A6 was named the best luxury car, the Toyota Prius was named best green car, the Buick Regal was titled best sports sedan, and the Honda Odyssey was rated as the best minivan. The Subaru Forester was named best small SUV, and the best medium SUV prize went to the Toyota Highlander. A best pick-up truck was not named in 2015.Learn more about Car Makes & Models
