The only light-duty pickup trucks comparable to the Ford F-150 that have diesel engine options are the RAM 1500 and the Nissan Titan, as of 2015. General Motors has hinted about adding a diesel engine to its Sierra 1500 and Silverado 1500 trucks but has not made it official.
The RAM 1500 was the first light-duty truck to offer a diesel engine. The company uses its 3.0-liter EcoDiesel six-cylinder engine to increase torque and towing capacity while providing the best fuel efficiency rating in its class.
To compete with RAM, Nissan added the option of a hefty 5.0-liter Cummins eight-cylinder diesel engine that generates 310 horsepower and 555 foot-pounds of torque to its Titan model trucks.
