As of January 1, 2004, all drivers over the age of 80 are required to take a vision test prior to license renewal in the state of Florida. Vision exams are available at no charge at all state Department of Motor Vehicle license bureaus.
Drivers who choose to test at a license bureau are encouraged to schedule an appointment prior to appearing. Those who are uncomfortable with an exam at a DMV may choose to complete the exam elsewhere prior to renewal. Individuals who choose to test elsewhere must have a vision test performed by a medical doctor licensed to practice in Florida or an optometrist. In addition, the doctor performing the test must submit a Mature Driver Vision Test Form (HSMV 72119) to the DMV.
