What Does "AAA" Stand For?

Headquartered in Heathrow, Fla, "AAA" stands for "American Automobile Association." The organization was founded in 1902 for the purpose of advocating driver and passenger rights, fair laws and safer vehicles that make driving more enjoyable.

AAA was founded with 1,500 members and became especially known for its emergency road service, first offered in 1915. The organization has expanded to include auto, homeowners, travel and life insurance and financial products and services. In 1975, AAA added its Approved Auto Repair program to identify competent and reliable repair facilities for drivers. Today, AAA boasts more than 50 million members and is widely recognized as a leader in its field.
