Subaru offers a number of colors for its 2015 vehicles in both metallic and pearl versions, including Venetian Red Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic and Lapis Blue Pearl. However, some colors may only be available with certain vehicles or certain interior color combinations.
The color most commonly associated with Subaru's vehicles is blue, largely due to the distinctive blue and yellow liveries used on Subaru's World Rally Championship cars for many years. Subaru's blue WRX STI rally cars contrasted strikingly on rally stages with the vehicles from arch-rival Mitsubishi, who favored bright red color schemes for their Lancer Evolution entries. Though Subaru no longer fields a factory team in WRC as of 2015, the WR Blue Pearl color exclusive to the 2016 WRX performance sedan and BR-Z sports coupe pays homage to the company's motorsport tradition.
Most of Subaru's paint colors come in both metallic and pearl versions, though usually the same base color is only available in one or the other version of a particular model. Metallic colors have a consistent pattern of highlights regardless of the way the vehicle is lit, while the highlights on pearl paint shift depending on the angle of the light hitting the car. Metallic colors also tend to reflect light more intensely than pearl paints, resulting in more intense highlighting.
