In April 2013, 10,137 2014-model Subaru Foresters were recalled due to a faulty floor mat design. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that the floor mats were susceptible to curling when exposed to heat, which could cause them to interfere with operation of the brake or gas pedal.
The NHTSA stated that the backing of the carpeted floor mat design was not manufactured to proper specification. Subaru was ordered to replace the floor mats with new ones for any Subaru Forester manufactured between January 2013 through March 2013. Subaru issued notifications to all affected owners and urged any concerned consumer to contact Subaru's corporate hotline to discuss the recall.
