What Is YouTube?

YouTube is the largest online video sharing platform. Users create accounts and upload videos. Most of the content is free; however, there are channels that charge a fee for streaming movies and showing live events.

YouTube was created in 2005 by three former employees of PayPal. It later sold to Google in 2006 for US $1.65 billion. Worldwide, there are over 1 billion users. These are individuals or entities that have created accounts for purposes of sharing video content or interacting with other users.

Each day, users watch hundreds of millions of hours’ worth of video. Advertisers have taken to these spaces to reach masses worldwide from YouTube video views. Professional video producers, musicians, artists, college professors, preachers, enthusiasts and media houses all have embraced YouTube to reach desired audiences.
