Verizon began offering its television services, called FiOS in 2005. At that time, Verizon offered the service in only two states; as of 2015, FiOS continues to expand its service area.
Verizon saw the need to create a faster, more reliable service that used fiber optics instead of copper wire, and it was one of the first mobile carriers in the United States to offer this kind of service. FiOS continues receiving positive reviews from customers and critics, and is usually sold as part of a bundle consisting of home phone service, Internet access and television services.
Verizon first offered the FiOS service to people living in Keller, Texas. Since May 2013, Verizon stated that they installed the FiOS service to more than 18 million homes.
