A WPS file is a text document file format that is similar to Microsoft Word's DOC file format. A WPS file is created using the Microsoft Works Word Processor and it does not incorporate macros or advanced formatting options. The WPS format was discontinued and replaced with the DOC format.
As of 2014, most modern versions of Microsoft Word are capable of opening a WPS file. The WPS file format contains word processing documents and other types of richly formatted texts, including tables, images and clipart. There is also a C++ library known as libwps that allows users to access, read and write WPS documents.
