Wind Mobile offers a selection of unlimited phone and data plans for purchase in Wind Mobile stores across Canada. The store locations are listed on Wind's website. However, phones and plans are not available for purchase on the website, as of 2015.
Wind Mobile offers a few different unlimited phone and data plans, ranging from $35 per month to $60 per month. There is also a $25 plan which offers unlimited calling and texting but does not include data. Wind carries a variety of cell phone brands, including Blackberry, Samsung, LG, Motorola and Sony.
All features are unlimited when the phone is using the Wind network, which is strongest in the metro areas around Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver. Some smaller urban centres also host a strong Wind network, including Windsor, Ontario, and Kingston, Ontario. Wind Mobile is constantly working to improve their network coverage.
Based in Toronto, Wind Mobile was started in 2009 by a partnership between the Egyptian media company Orsacom and Globalive, which is led by Canadian entrepreneur Anthony Lacavera. In 2011, Wind Mobile's parent company was bought by VimpelCom Ltd. In 2014, Globalive bought out VimpelCom's interest in the mobile company, providing Globalive more than 65 percent of the voting shares, thus giving them control over the company's interests.
