Microsoft discontinued Works in 2010, so the launcher is no longer available. The Works launcher opened the combined word processing and spreadsheet program but did not exist as software without the entire program. Works 9 is still for sale on Amazon in 2016, but it is not free.
Microsoft's replacement for Works is the Office Starter Edition. If Microsoft Works came with a computer purchase that included system restore discs, reloading from the discs is possible. If that is not possible, Microsoft provides a converter to move Works files into recent Office formats, which allows retrieving data from the old file formats. Once converted, a free office suite such as LibreOffice can read the Microsoft Office files.
