SNP is short for SNaPshot report. The snapshot reports are made using Microsoft Access and are used to store static snapshots of report graphics, text and layouts. Snapshot report files are based on the Compound File Binary Format, which is a container format used by Microsoft applications to store several directories, graphics commands and files that are used to create a report.

With snapshot viewer, users can view any SNP files that were created using versions of Microsoft Access. The official download consists of a snapshot view control, or Snpvw.ocx, a single executable program, which is Snpvw.exe, and related files.

Snapshot viewer is only available for Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, NT, XP and Vista. It only works with MS Office Access 97, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2007 applications. The snapshot format for reports is not available in MS Access 2010 and later versions. As an alternative, users can export their reports to XPS/PDF and Excel formats instead.
