Apple develops Siri, the built-in iOS speech recognition software. Microsoft's Cortana also features speech-to-text capabilities.
Nuance Communications develops the free app Dragon Mobile Assistant. Dragon Mobile Assistant is capable of conducting web searches, writing texts, setting appointments, making a call and providing directions using voice commands.

Indigo Virtual Assistant is a free virtual assistant similar to Dragon Mobile Assistant that has many of the same features, including text, search and directions. In addition, Indigo handles news aggregation, can tell jokes and allows users to access messages across multiple devices. Indigo Virtual Assistant is quickly launched from the home screen using swipe gestures.
