To use a Canon printer, start by reading the setup guide in the accompanying owner's instruction manual. Electronic copies of all Canon printer manuals are available in PDF at the Canon Service and Support Center.
Manuals are organized by model number. The model number of a Canon printer appears either on the front, back or bottom of the printer. Instructions vary between models, although generally it is best to install the printer drivers for the respective model and operating system before connecting and powering on the printer.
The Service and Support Center also provides printer drivers. Choose the correct operating system version and processor architecture for the PC or Mac that is connecting to the printer. The Canon Service Center is capable of detecting the processing system version and system architecture through the browser, so when acquiring the drivers, use the PC or Mac that you plan to have interface with the printer later.
After downloading the drivers, double click on the installation package, and follow the instructions that appear on the screen to install the drivers. During the installation process, instructions appear advising the correct method to connect and power on the printer. This information is also available in the user manual.
