While the free offer for Windows 10 is not expected to be offered to owners of Windows Vista, you may purchase a new laptop with the upgraded operating system or pay for a new license. You may also join the Windows Insiders program and possibly receive the new system.
Windows Insiders is an optional service that Microsoft offers to give users access to new programs before they are fully released. The program began with the reveal of Windows 10 on Sept. 30, 2014. It offers users a chance to give feedback on products and updates before their initial release. However, becoming a member of the Windows Insider program does not guarantee receipt of the newest version of Windows 10. Only users who have Windows 7 or 8 are guaranteed to get the free upgrade. If you have these versions but opted out of the free upgrade or cannot use the free options, you must purchase the upgrade. The anticipated price of Windows 10 Home is about $120 as of July 2015. Windows 10 Pro is priced at about $200 and Windows 10 Pro Pack at $100. Computers that contain Windows 10 hit the market on July 29, 2015. The upgrade can be purchased in most retail stores or online.
