To update your navigation system map, permit the GPS unit to update automatically, download the updated maps from relevant GPS manufacturer's websites, and save it to the GPS unit. Alternatively, use the latest discs of the navigation maps or access the map update or navigation site of the car manufacturer.
If the GPS unit indicates that map updates are available, allow it to update the material automatically.
Alternatively, access the website of a GPS provider such as TomTom and Garmin, and download the available updated maps directly to the GPS unit or to a computer. To shift the material from a computer to the GPS unit, connect the two devices via a USB port, and drag the material to the appropriate folder in the GPS unit. GPS provider websites may provide the maps for free or require you to purchase them.
GPS manufacturers also provide discs of the updated maps periodically every year. Purchase the disc, insert it into the GPS unit, and follow the instructions given in the manual to update the navigation system.
When buying a map update from the website of the car manufacturer, provide the model and year of the vehicle to find a suitable update. Car manufacturers issue map updates in the form of SD cards or discs.
