How Do You Update a Browser?

You can update your browser automatically with automatic updates or manually within the "About" section of the browser preferences. You need an Internet-ready computer and either Chrome or Firefox installed to begin. Internet Explorer updates automatically when you install and download updates through the Windows Update feature.

  1. Open the Web browser

Right click the browser icon on your computer, and select "Open" from the pop-up menu. Alternatively, double click the desktop icon to launch the browser. Wait for the home page to load.

  2. Locate the menu button

Locate the menu button in the upper-right corner of the browser. Firefox and Chrome have similar menu icons next to the URL bar. The menu icon resembles three lines stacked on top of each other.

  3. Go to the "About" section

Click the menu button to reveal a pop-up menu. In Chrome, click "About" at the bottom of the menu. In Firefox, click the help icon at the bottom of the pop-up menu. Next, click "About Firefox" in the sidebar.

  4. Install updates

After clicking the "About" option in your browser, a new window opens and reveals the current browser version. It also automatically searches for and installs new updates for the browser. After it updates, restart Firefox or Chrome, and resume your normal browsing.
