Because Internet Explorer is a Windows feature it cannot be uninstalled, but it can be turned off. Computers using Windows 8.1 have Internet Explorer 11 already installed.
With Internet Explorer installed on Windows based computers, there is no need to download any additional software. IE can be set as the default browser on the system or a new browser can be installed and set to the default. If the user agrees to automatic updates, whenever a newer version of IE is available it will automatically be downloaded and installed onto the system. Since there is no way to uninstall the program, the only option for users is to turn it off using the steps below.
- Select Search
- Turn off Internet Explorer 11
At the right edge of the screen, swipe and then select "Search." The "Search" option can be located by pointing the mouse at the lower right hand corner of the screen and moving it upwards to reveal the option for those using a mouse.
From the "Search" bar, enter "Windows Features" and then select "Settings" by either clicking or tapping the option. Click "Turn Windows Features On or Off" in the Windows Features dialogue box, clear the check next to Internet Explorer 11 and exit the screen choosing "Save" to save the changes made.
